Protect your home this winter!
A little forethought and anti-freeze can help you avoid plumbing disasters, water turn-offs, hot water shortages and especially added expense. The most important thing to do for unused plumbing fixtures is to drain them or blow them out accordingly.
For any water system that may be unused during the winter, you can use compressed air to force the remaining water out to avoid any problems once the freezing temperatures set in. If you have a summer home that will be unoccupied during the winter months, be sure to drain the water tank and all water pipes, including those coming from the toilets. Once you've emptied the pipes, pour antifreeze in them and you will have just avoided the major risk of frozen pipes. Also be sure to disconnect all hoses, because any water remaining in them will freeze.
